Background of Art
The Tang Dynasty, with its capital at Changan, the most populous city in the world at the time, is regarded by historians as a high point in Chinese civilization—equal, or even superior, to the Han period. The Tang period was considered the golden age of literature and art. Also blocking printing made the written word available to vastly greater audiences.
Tang Sancai

Sancai means three-colors. However, the colours of the glazes used to decorate the wares of the Tang dynasty were not limited to three in number. In the West, Tang sancai wares were sometimes referred to as egg-and-spinach by dealers for the use of green, yellow and white. Though the latter of the two colours might be more properly described as amber and off-white or cream.Sancai wares were northern wares made using white and buff-firing secondary kaolins and fire clays. The clays used for burial wares were similar to those used by Tang potters.

During the early Tang period, the painting style was mainly inherited from the previous Sui Dynasty. In this period, the "painting of people" developed greatly. Tang Poetry
Tang poetry refers to poetry written in or around the time of or in the characteristic style of China'sTang Dynasty. During the Tang Dynasty, poetry continued to be an important part of social life at all levels of society. Scholars were required to master poetry for the civil service examinations, but the art was theoretically available to everyone.This led to a large record of poetry and poets, a partial record of which survives today.Two of the most famous poets of the period were Du Fu and Li Bai. Li Bai is on behalf of High Tang and Du Fu is on the behalf of Late Tang. The poetry of the Tang Dynasty is important for several reasons. It is important in the field of Chinese literature and Chinese poetry, within which it has had especial note. Tang poetry has had an on-going influence on world literature and modern and quasi-modern poetry.The chronology of Tang poetry may be divided into four parts: Early Tang, High Tang, Middle Tang, and Late Tang.
